NLC India Limited, formerly known as Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited was incorporated on 14th November, 1956 as a Private Limited Company under the house of Government of India (GOI), which went to public on 7th March, 1986. The Company's name was changed from Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited to NLC India Limited on 8 March, 2016. Presently, NLCIL is engaged in the business of mining of Lignite, Coal and generation of power by using lignite as well as Renewable Energy Sources and consultancy. It operates 3 opencast lignite mines of total capacity of 30.1 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) at Neyveli, Tamil Nadu and 1 open cast lignite Mine of capacity 2.1 million TPA at Barsingsar, in Rajasthan.
